TOP FC 8 headlined by Lightweight and Bantamweight title matches

On August 15th, 2015 at Olympic Hall in Seoul, South Korea, TOP FC 8 will feature the Lightweight Grand Prix Final and the inaugural Bantamweight title fight in the co-main event.

Top Fighting Championship has been working hard since its inception in 2013 to crown champions in the lower weight classes and this event will add two more.

Lightweight Grand Prix Final

In the featured bout of the night, the Lightweight Grand Prix Final between MosGym representative Kang Jung-Min (7-5-2) and the other Kim Dong-Hyun (12-6-3) from Team MAD is bound to duplicate the fireworks that they created in their semifinal matches.

Back in April at TOP FC 6, both fighters advanced by finishing their foes. Kang started slow in his fight against Hwang Gyo-Pyung, but in the second frame went for broke and connected with some left hooks that led to a devastating stoppage. Similarly, Kim won the exchanges on the feet versus Toshikatsu, however, he got the ref to cease the competition by pounding the Japanese fighter from back mount.

At TOP FC 8, these young Korean warriors will be eager to etch their names in TOP FC history by becoming their first lightweight champion.

Inaugural Bantamweight Title

The co-main event will be for the inaugural bantamweight strap. The match-up between undefeated phenom Kwak Kwan-Ho (6-0) and furious brawler Park Han-Bin (6-2) should be just as anticipated as the main event.

These two combatants have a history that dates back to when they were amateurs.

In 2013, at Khan Amateur League 1, they met as the main event. It was pretty much a back and forth affair until Park landed a double leg takedown and transitioned perfectly into side control in the third. From there, the Tristone rep was able to keep top position eventually getting into mount and getting the TKO finish with seconds left on the clock.

Then, less than a year later, they met as professionals at TOP FC 2. This time, Kwak was able to get revenge quickly in the first round by dominating in the striking exchanges. In the final sequence, the KTT product started off with a few clean left hands that dropped Park, and then he topped it off with some punches on the ground.

This upcoming rumble between two young and talented fighters will not only crown the bantamweight champion, but also the viewing public will be able to assess the progress and enhancements made since their first meeting. All in all, it makes for a fight that will likely be action-packed.

Main Card

Another intriguing match-up on the main card is in the featherweight division pitting Kim Dong-Gyu (4-1) against Han Seung-Hwa (7-5). These two electrifying competitors were supposed to meet at TOP FC 6 back in April yet about a week before the event Han sustained a hand injury which put the kibosh on the bout.

Now that the First Gym fighter is fully healed from his injury, its’ time to finally see who will win their contest. The victor will be the favorite to get a crack at the Featherweight Champion Choi Yeung-Gwang.

There are also a few battles of the young unbeaten on this card. 155ers Michael Ahn (2-0) and Park Kyung-Soo (2-0) will slug it out to see who can put the first blemish on their opponent’s record and flyweights Faromon Gafarov (2-0) and Kwon Min-Soo (1-0) will expectedly do the same to kick off the night of fights.

Last but not least, a late addition to the main card will be contested in the women’s strawweight division. The queen of Korean Top Team, Jung Yoo-Jin (1-3), will take on newcomer Naouel Bourbia (0-0) of Phuket Top Team.
